(MAGANews.org) – Before Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) officially began his presidential campaign on Wednesday, President Donald Trump attacked him, saying he would be destined to lose in the general election because he voted to restructure Medicare programs while he was a congressman.
Trump, the front-runner in the Republican presidential primary, attacked DeSantis on Truth Social for his backing of bills during his time in Congress that targeted Social Security and Medicare:
“Ron DeSanctus can’t win the General Election (or get the Nomination) because he VOTED TO OBLITERATE SOCIAL SECURITY, EVEN WANTING TO RAISE THE MINIMUM AGE TO 70 (or more!), VOTED TO BADLY WOUND MEDICARE, AND FOUGHT HARD AND VOTED FOR A 23% “TAX ON EVERYTHING” SALES TAX.”
He claimed in his essay that DeSantis “was, and is, a disciple of horrible RINO Paul Ryan, and others too many to mention.” The President said, “He desperately needs a personality transplant and, to the best of my knowledge, they are not medically available yet.”
DeSantis has received criticism from MAGA Inc, a super PAC affiliated with Trump, for his votes on entitlement programs. The super PAC ran an advertisement in which it said DeSantis had “pudding fingers” that were “all over senior entitlement” and that he had “voted to cut Social Security three times.”

As reported by Business Insider in February:
“As a congressional candidate, DeSantis repeatedly expressed support for Rep. Paul Ryan’s proposed overhaul to entitlement programs by privatizing aspects of Medicare and Social Security, as CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski and Em Steck uncovered earlier this week.
Congressman DeSantis went even further than that position. As Josh Barro wrote, DeSantis supported the even more drastic Republican Study Committee’s budget proposal that aimed to balance the federal budget in four years instead of Ryan’s decade.
To achieve such cuts, as the Committee for the Responsible Budget detailed back then, required changing Medicare to a partially private system by 2019 and raising the retirement age to 70. It would have also increased the full retirement age for Social Security to 70.”
Another advertisement, set to the tune of “Old MacDonald,” refers to the governor as “Ron DeSalesTax” and claims he “had a plan to… make you pay more.”
The 45th President boasted that DeSantis won Florida’s Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2018 with the help of his endorsement in an earlier post on Wednesday. He stated that DeSantis won the governorship thanks in part to subsequent rallies he held in Florida:

In March, at his first rally of the 2024 election campaign in Waco, Texas, Trump said that DeSantis had “tears in his eyes” when he contacted him for this endorsement.
It’s definitely going to be an iconic battle between Trump and DeSantis. In the end, Conservatives must come together if we want to take this country back.
